IN A NUTSHELL
The Food Services Associate reports to the Shelter Operations Manager and is responsible for coordinating the smooth running of our large commercial kitchen, in a safe and professional manner, resulting in three meals per day for our clientele. This is a 35/hr per week position. Sunday through Thursday from 7am to 230pm. (30 minute lunch).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
-Support volunteer shifts in the kitchen to provide consistency in food safety and sanitation practices, and in cooking practices, food quality and competencies.
-Open and prepare kitchen every morning, pull food for shift volunteers, ensure breakfast is delivered.
-Work with lead volunteer chef regarding weekly menu; utilizing ingredients on hand.
-Ensure weekly instructional sheet and duty description is provided to each volunteer shift lead.
-Work with Shelter Operations Manager to access inventory and order items from food bank and supporting stores.
-Assess all kitchen inventory monthly and order supplies accordingly (Fishman’s).
-Perform end of month meal tally and other month end paperwork.
-Work with Volunteer Coordinator to address intermittent volunteer issues/questions/guidance.
-Sign-in court-ordered volunteers and train on safety and logistics.
-Assist with preparation and cooking when not fully staffed with volunteers. Some additional hours may be required on occasion.
-Clean kitchen and dining area as needed.
-Perform cooler temperature calibrations.
-Participate in Staff meetings, Volunteer Orientations, Kitchen Management meetings, Organization Leadership meetings, and Food Program Team meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS
-At least 2 years kitchen experience.
-Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
-Strong capacity for guiding and working with volunteers.
-Ability to stay calm and keep a sense of humor in a fast-paced environment
-Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially excel, required. Familiarity with Salesforce desired.
-Ability and desire to be in a work environment that values collaboration and roll your sleeves-up attitude.

EDUCATION
Minimum A. A. Degree in Administration or Certificate in Culinary field, or applicable work experience. Food Handler’s permit will be required within first 30 days of hire.

​LANGUAGE, MATH & REASONING SKILLS

Ability to read and write instructions. Ability to respond effectively to time-sensitive projects. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to food preparation.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

California Driver’s License and access to an insured vehicle required. Food Handler’s permit will be required within first 30 days of hire.
