Summary:

The Steward position is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards for china, glassware, tableware, cooking utensils, etc., using machine and manual cleaning methods. This position also ensures the dish washing area is maintained as a clean, safe and sanitary facility.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools, including the dish washing machine, hand wash stations pot-scrubbing station, and trash compactor.

Wash and disinfect kitchen and store room areas, tables, tools, knives, and equipment.

Receive deliveries, store perishables properly, and rotate stock.

Ensure clean wares are stored in appropriate areas.

Use detergent, rinsing, and sanitizing chemicals in the 3-compartment sink to clean dishes. Inspect, pull, and stack cleaned items, send soiled items back for re-scrubbing and re-washing. Rack and spray all racked items with hot water to loosen and remove food residue.

Sort, soak, and wash/re-wash silverware.

Breakdown dirty bus tubs.

Empty and maintain trash cans and dumpster area.

Clean and mop all areas in assigned departments.

Dispose of glass in the proper containers.

Break down cardboard boxes and place them and other recyclables in the recycle bin.

Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures

Report maintenance needs, accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager; Complete safety training and certifications.

Attends all scheduled employee meetings and brings suggestions for improvement.

Performs other related duties as assigned by the Management Team.

Qualifications:

6 months experience in kitchen preparation, cooking or related field.

Previous kitchen experience

Availability during nights, weekends, and holidays.

ServSafe Certified

Language Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Work Environment:

The work environment can be loud and busy. There are many kitchen hazards such as hot surfaces and liquids, sharp knives, and slippery floors.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee is required to stand for long periods as well as walk, bend and stoop. The position requires working taste buds, ability to smell, feel with fingers and visually inspect, including close and distance vision. The position requires ability to use arms, hands and manipulate fingers to reach, stir, measure, pour, cut, chop, dice, decorate, etc. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
