Evening Supervisory Cook (Needham)

Rebecca’s Café is seeking an experienced cook to assist in leading the kitchen in our café at Olin College for the Evening Shift. Under the supervision of the Executive Chef and Chef de Cuisine, the Evening Supervisory Cook will be responsible for overseeing production of high quality, fresh and creative food for dinner service. This candidate is responsible for the smooth operation of the kitchen in the absence of the Executive Chef or Chef de Cuisine.

Essential Functions

Assists in preparation of delicious, fresh, scratch-made food for our high-quality café. Prepares food for drop off catering and large volume banquets. Maintains sanitary kitchen in accordance with HACCP program. Develops kitchen staff and ensures adherence to corporate policy.

Provides excellent customer service to the students and community of Olin College. Has friendly, hospitable personality. Willing to do whatever it takes to meet the needs of our guests.

Is an exemplary leader to kitchen staff. Maintains professional and positive demeanor. Responsible for supervising kitchen staff in accordance with corporate policy.

Ensures cost, portion, and labor controls are being maintained. Enforces loss prevention strategy. Assists in inventory, ordering and scheduling, at discretion of chef.

Communicates and maintains excellent relationships with customers, vendors, senior management and corporate staff. Assists colleagues as need arise.

Willingness and ability to assist in any aspect of kitchen operation to ensure successful completion of tasks/needs.

Required Experience and Qualifications

Demonstrated success in kitchen in high quality restaurant or cafe
Professional appearance and manner
ServSafe, Allergen Awareness and Choke Safe Training (or willingness to complete prior to hiring)

Preferred Education and Experience

At least five years related work experience
Culinary Degree

Physical Demands

The employee is occasionally required to sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 40 pounds or less.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Café hours of operation are breakfast through dinner, seven days a week. Typical schedule will be a closing shift, working lunch and dinner. Weekend and holidays will be required based on business demands. Occasional local travel will be expected.

Work Environment

This job operates in a kitchen environment, housed with equipment such as an oven, stove, dishwasher, slicer, coffee machine, steamer, mixer and chef’s knives. The employee is frequently exposed to heat, steam, fire and noise.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
