Skilled Barista (shift manager position) (Ogawa Coffee)

Ogawa Coffee originates in Kyoto, Japan in 1952. With about 25 locations in and around Kyoto, Japan, we are proud be Ogawa Coffee’s first ever international cafe, located right here in Downtown Crossing Boston. Opened May 2015, we are a growing cafe and have solidified ourselves as a destination coffee shop, as well as the perfect place for a large amount of daily regulars. Serving specialty coffee, beautiful looking lattes, cappuccinos, matcha lattes, and much more, many many customers from near and far visit us year round.

We are looking for an experienced barista to join our team as a shift manager. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
-Opening/Closing the shop
-Managing other employees
-Managing everyone’s breaks
-***Customer service (VERY IMPORTANT)
-POS (cashier) training
-Basic kitchen training
-Supply ordering
-Making fantastic and delicious drinks
-Being the person in charge if there is a customer issue
-Training newer employees

The ideal candidate would be knowledgeable in espresso machine usage and already versed in creating latte art. Previous experience in a management position is preferred, but not required.

As a trial, all new employees (no matter what position) start out at $12/hr + tips for the first 4 weeks. This allows us to make sure we are comfortable with our new hire and we want to make sure new employees are comfortable in their new workplace as well. After the 4 weeks is up, as long as everything is working out, we will upgrade the pay in the $14-$16/hr range, depending on skill level and how quickly one becomes acclimated to operations.
